SUMMARY:RiTA
DESCRIPTION:The Green Turtle Cay Sailing Club hosted its first 4th of July Race in 1967\, quickly establishing it as an annual tradition for both local and visiting yachtsmen. In 1974\, the Abaco Regatta Syndicate was formed\, leading to the inaugural Regatta Time in Abacos in 1976\, initially featuring traditional Bahamian boats. \nAs cruiser participation grew\, the popular Green Turtle Cay Race was merged into the regatta in 1978. By 1984\, the event hit a record 121 participating boats\, prompting the creation of the “Mother Tub” class to accommodate the many cruising vessels. This beloved annual series continued each summer until 2019\, when Hurricane Dorian caused extensive devastation in the Abaco area. The impact of the storm\, coupled with travel restrictions from the global COVID-19 pandemic\, interrupted the regatta tradition for several years. \nIn 2023\, the event made a triumphant return as Regattas in The Abacos\, coinciding with the declaration of sailing as the Bahamas’ National Sport. The rebirth was met with great enthusiasm and marked a new chapter for this celebrated racing series. \nThis summer\, the legacy continues! Join us for another spectacular regatta tour of the Abacos. With older rum\, faster boats\, and younger spirits\, we look forward to welcoming sailors and spectators alike for this iconic event. Mark your calendars and prepare to set sail!

SUMMARY:Lobster Festival
DESCRIPTION:For more than a decade\, the festival has crafted a tasty treasure hunt across the unassuming island with delightful lobster dishes and tropical cocktails as spoils. Anegada is called the “drowned island” due to its low elevation\, only 28 feet above sea level\, and flat surface. However\, this flat feature\, unique amongst its more undulous British Virgin Islands’ neighbors\, makes for great driving and exploration of the tropical destination. Views of varying shades of cerulean and turquoise waters lapping at miles of white sand beaches create a perfect weekend of eating for visiting lobster aficionados. \nFor the shellfish allergy-challenged foodie\, the island offers a bounty of seafood dishes aside from spiny lobster. Anegada is home to a bustling commercial fishing community and provides most of the fresh fish and lobsters in the BVI\, so a variety of other seafood dishes can be expected from the many quaint restaurants that dot the island’s shores. Aside from good eating\, visitors can expect lively Caribbean beats as DJs and Soca artists perform at various venues and boat parties slated throughout the festival weekend. \nAlthough often overlooked for larger islands in the BVI\, Anegada’s inhabitants have turned the humble island into a must-visit for foodies by offering a seat at their table\, one filled with plates of savory Caribbean fare and sweet spiny lobster at the center. \nAt this year’s Anegada Lobster Festival\, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the fresh spiny lobster\, fish\, or meat of their choice at many participating restaurants.
